Developing a robust smart home platform with IQRF

This year Ethiot are partnering with Czech company, IQRF Tech to put in place the building blocks required to create a reliable, and scalable mesh network for professional Ethiot customers such as landlords and property management firms.

In the world of business there seem to be no shortage of ‘great opportunities’, that’s to say there are always people selling you, or attempting to convince you that a partnership makes sense. Every so often though, something genuinely exciting comes along.

Futurebuild 2020

Back in March of this year, a couple of weeks before the nation went into lockdown due to Covid-19, I was fortunate enough to exhibit with Ethiot at Futurebuild 2020.

The event was a great opportunity, not only for the business to gain much-needed exposure, but also for me in my first taste of ‘selling’ my idea to the construction industry, architects and the general public.

Over the course of the week I met with a number of exciting prospects and was pitched ideas and ‘opportunities’ from dozens of sales execs and company directors.

One of those people was Šimon Chudoba, CEO of the IQRF Alliance – a sister company to IQRF Tech who are evangelising the technology to build a community of connected device manufacturers.

After speaking with Šimon at one of the matchmaking events and seeing a live demo of the ease at which the technology can be deployed, I was sold.

At Ethiot one of our core design tenets has been about making the user-experience as simple and seamless as possible. Where IQRF stood out to be was in it’s ability to automatically detect and create the mesh network remotely, without needing to walk around activating devices manually.

We’ve now been working with the technology for nearly 5 months and are nearing our closed-beta test phase for our air quality monitor, Ethiot Air.

If you’d like to learn more about how we’ll be utilising IQRF in our products, take a look at the video below which is taken from May’s IQRF Alliance ‘meet-up’ event conducted over Zoom.
